What numbers can't tell you...

Today is one of the biggest days in our daughter’s life so far - GCSE results day - the day when years of school, homework, lessons and studying are summed-up in a few exam grades.

Except they’re not.

A number between 1 and 9 is no measure of resilience developed, or sacrifices made, or of sheer bloody hard work put in. A GCSE grade is no measure of practical skill, or empathy or sensitivity. It is no measure of comfort zone stepping, friendship-building or hours spent worrying, and it sure as hell is no measure of real-world potential or real-life awesomeness.

We don’t need numbers to tell us how proud we are of our daughter, or show us how hard she worked, because we already are and we already saw.

We get that they have to give out numbers, but to be honest they won’t tell us anything at all…
