It depends...

5 years ago, as I was coming to the end of my corporate career, I thought that nothing was ever black or white - everything was a shade of grey.

3 years ago, after I had left that world behind and had spent much time reflecting on my actions and my core beliefs, I thought that there was no such thing as grey, things were either black or white, and anything else was a cop-out.

More time has helped me to realise that most of the decisions we face are simple black or white choices, even if the choice is really hard, but very occasionally there are grey areas too, where things are so complex and so interlinked that making the right choice here can lead to the wrong result there.

Maybe then, it turns out that the best starting point for any decision is knowing that the answer might be ‘it depends…’
