Director's Commentary...

Director's Commentary...

Many of the films I buy these days have a ‘Director’s Commentary’ option, where they talk us through the film, explaining why they made this decision over that one, or maybe telling us an interesting fact about a particular scene.

I NEVER listen to the Director’s Commentary because I just want to enjoy the film.

Our lives also come with a commentary, except that this one’s in our own voice, and it’s telling us why we can’t do that thing, or what that person really meant, and rather than being an optional ‘extra’, this one’s permanently on.

The good news is that while we can’t turn our commentary off completely, we can learn to temporarily mute it through mindfulness - sure it takes time and it takes practice, but we definitely get to enjoy more of the film…
